Disadvantages of Invisible Fences

When considering what type of fencing material you'd like to use for your favorite four-footed friend, careful consideration of invisible fences and the advantages and disadvantages of the invisible fence is important.

Of course, the advantages of an invisible fence are readily apparent. First of all, there is no fencing to maintain such as wooden fences, or mesh fences, and within a short period of time your dog is trained to the boundaries and will stay home. Also, you don't have to worry about a bunch of unsightly fences on your property and yet your dog is safely contained and can exercise freely. There is also cost effectiveness, when you build a fence at home, you usually can't take it with you, but you can take your invisible fence wherever you move and just reinstall the wire.

The disadvantages are relatively unclear, there are a few main disadvantage is that you need to pay attention to.

Worst-case scenario is that your dog can actually be locked out of his containment area. If a dog is well known for chasing birds, squirrels, or even bicycles, their momentum can be so great that they blow through the invisible fence, and then are afraid to return home. It's important if you have one of these types of dogs that you never leave them home alone in the invisible fence containment area. It would be an awful situation for you and your pet if they were locked out of their own yard and were wandering the dangerous streets or causing problems.

Other than that, there aren't a lot of disadvantages to the invisible fence. You'll need to periodically check your batteries; it's recommended that you replace them about every three months, make sure that your dog is paying attention, and don't leave them home alone in the containment system.

It's very rare that you'll find a dog that will not pay attention to the signals of the invisible fence. There are a few different types of dogs that have extremely high tolerance for uncomfortable noise and stimulation, but those are rare and few between. If you're not happy with your invisible fence, please contact the people that you received it from and they'll be happy to assist in your training methods, or possibly even give you your money back. There are so few dogs that cannot be contained within invisible fence, but the advantages far away the disadvantages.

The disadvantages of the invisible fence are few and far between, basically, don't leave your dog home alone in the invisible fence just in case they get locked out. Periodically check your batteries and walk close to your fence with a collar in hand to make sure everything is working properly.
